At the time it wasn't much money but did really improve the player. I even had it connected with Van den Hul cables that were as much as the player.
It all improved things on the 965... but a modern player, like in my second system is much better and yet is not worth anything second hand.

So rather than adding a new DAC to an old player, you can get a better player for less than the DAC... so it's all a juggling act. Just recently I have had a Musical Fidelity X-Dac V3 on the digital out of my Marantz DR6000 CDR burner and it is really quite amazing, but again, DAC aside the player is worth nothing.

Do you know anybody that has a DAC or a player you can do some comparisons to...

It's all part of the fun of audio, the banging your head against a wall.
