You can start with a wonderful little DAC like the SUPER Pro 707. I bought it from www.diykits.com.hk and it's fantastic. Don't be fooled by the price. Just add a Elpac-style 24V power supply for better performance.

It largely betters all my recent CD players, like Cambridge Audio D300SE (tweaked & great sounding), Marantz CD6000 (didn't like it), Rotel RCD950.
