BTW, if you buy used, you might have enough in your budget
to acquire a jitter filter in addition to a DAC, to put
between your 965BX (used as a transport) and your new DAC.
Some possibilities, that come up on Audiogon (and eBay) from
time to time:
Genesis Digital Lens
Audio Alchemy DTI Pro32
Meridian 518
(These three units will all also "widen" the data from
16 bits to 20 [Lens] or up to 24 [the other two], either by
adding shaped noise below the least-significant bit in the
16-bit data, or by "extrapolating" DSP-generated low-level
data [in the case of the DTI Pro32]).
