connecting a pre/pro to an integrated (?)

I have a two-channel system consisting of a Naim Nait5i integrated and a pair of Linn Ninkas. The Nait comes with an "upgrade-friendly" feature that allows it to function strictly as a power amp for running the front two speakers of a 5.1 system, but after a distasteful experience with a second-hand AV2 (Naim's companion pre-pro), I've gone back to using the Nait as a true integrated.

What I'd like is to use just the Nait when listening to music, but still have the option of listening to 5.1 channel sound when watching movies, through the use of a pre/pro, possibly an Outlaw 950. This would also enable me to use the optical digital output on the DVD player for sound.

Can I connect the DVD player to the Outlaw, and the rest of my 2-channel system to the Nait, without having to walk behind the rig for some elaborate work-around when I switch between 2- and 5-channel sources? I was thinking that if there was a two-channel tape loop on the back of the Outlaw, I could connect that to the Nait, but then would the front channels wouldn't be properly "encoded" for 5.1 sound? I'm trying to avoid using the Outlaw as my preamp for 2-channel sound, which is the only other way I can envision hooking everything together. I like the sound of the Nait's passive preamp for 2-channel reproduction.

Thoughts?
