My previous players were:
* heavily modded (clocked, caps, op amps and mains cable upgraded) Marantz CD67 bought off ebay for £180 (actually rather good in all departments, and a solid transport - I still have this in my study system. I'll never again find something as good for so little money)
* Sugden Masterclass CD (which is the one I miss most. The Shigaraki Transport - Chord DAC64 combo is certainly 'more' of everything but the Sugden, in hindsight, I could still live happily with, it's musical, warm, detailed, great throughout the frequency range, Sugden did a great job with the TDA-1541 in this player).
* MF Nu-vista 3D CD (surprisingly disappointing in my system especially after the Sugden - clear and detailed, and built like a tank, but a bit too 'weedy' in sound for me. This was my tube obsession taken one step too far).
I'll be interested in your comments on the Paradiseo as for me there was nothing in it between it an the Shigaraki (I had a special edition which used a Nu-Vista tube in an output buffer) - and of couse it's less than half the price. I haven't heard the ACK.
Rest of system has been relatively stable for a while: heavily upgraded LP12 + Klyne SK-1 active MC stepup; Audion two-box Premier pre with MM phono stage and point silver wire upgrade; Audion 300b Silver Night monoblocs; Fostex 168 Sigma-based full-range front loaded horns (Tom Zerowski Zhorn design - same driver as the Beauhorn B2) plus T90A supertweeters and a pair of BK Electronics subs; Dogsplodge silver litz cable all round.
