Did digital designers get it all wrong once they started down the complex paths of oversampling, upsampling, special re-clocking, etc. ad nauseum?Forum regulars will remember my angst-filled posts the last couple of months trying to find a cd player that sounded musical and didn't induce fatigue and tension.
I took a leap of faith a few weeks ago and bought a 47 Labs Shigaraki transport and DAC. This is the only thing I've heard thus far that's better than the yeoman Playstation 1 that I also own. And this list goes all the way to $6K cd players that I've owned or demo'd.
I don't hear any of the problems others have argued against non-oversampling. The "obsolete technology" Shigaraki certainly doesn't lack for resolution, nor do I hear any tonal anamolies, aliasing artifacts(whatever that sounds like), etc. It doesn't sound too soft, too distant, too "fuzzy" or anything suggesting its lack of a digital filter is a compromise.
In fact, it sounds musical. Which makes me wonder why the digital filter is there in the first place.
