How do I decrease the bass in an audio recording?

Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong forum but here's my dilemma:

I have taken a lot of live show footage throughout the years. Most of it turned out great but on some ocassions, the bass from the speakers drown everything out. It makes for great video but horrible audio. I asked a random camera man and he said he could lower the bass in Pro Tools. I don't have that type of setup.

So my question is: How do I lower the bass in my videos? What software can I use? What is the correct technical term for this effect when I do my searching online? I already have programs like Sony Vegas and Final Cut Pro Express installed on my PC and Mac but it either does not work or I am not doing it correctly.

Any information anyone can provide would be great and I would really appreciate this.
