The Vimak DS-2000 blew away most high price digital gears back in 90s' include the Wadia 7/9!! I think have some diode, opamp and electrolytics upgrades, Vimak DS2000 is still a pretty excellent machine!
Linn CD12, is one of the most lean sounding CD player ever made. IT just don't present musicality the way I like, again, the way I like.
Naim always have limitation on both extremes and lack of macrodynamic range. it's not wroth the price what their 555 asking. Personally, the Weiss Jason/ Weiss combo is better, but it's also compromised, low gain very details in terms of micro-dynamics, but high gain.... the microdynamics is ruined, but what you gain is the macrodynamics range but a bit grainy on mid and high!!
Weiss is good but limit, I prefer my main reference digital front end for last few years -- Forsell Air Reference plus Electrocompaniet ECD1, unfortunately, the Forsell CD transport is dead. At this moment, I listened to my Audiomeca Mephisto.X / Enkianthus.X combo the most. Cairn Mistrale and Breeze from France sounds great as well, but it need proper set up, especially the Cairn XO interconnect cable is a must! I play the Micromega Aria once a while for piano recording!
Personal, I'm more favour to French digital gears, it just makes music!
EERA DL2 also a great digital source, regardless the asking price! I love PrimaLuna PL8 even it costs under 3K!
Audio Research CD-7 is masking the details in my opinions!
If anyone come across a vintage Tandberg 3015A, Cambridge CD1, Philips LHH200 and Studer A730, then hook these up to PS Audio Premier power plant or Monarchy Audio AC Regen and try to operate with different sine wave, you will be surprise!
Honestly, I don't believe in high price digital equipment anymore! I just listened Rega Saturn, and it just sound great to my ears and more musical than most stuff with expensive price tag! "MAKE SURE THE UNIT IS BROKEN IN"!!!!
I'm wondering what is Lavry Gold. Are they any good!
