When I compared the CIA VDA-2 to the Benchmark DAC-1, I noticed the CIA having better extension in the extremes. Ended up purchasing the CIA with the matching VAC-1 power supply. Upgraded the power cord and the two units can easily do justice on rock music. Tonally, the CIA is similar in sound to the Ayre C-5xe my neighbor has and this when connected to either my Oppo 970 or Sony 200-disc megachanger. It is a good choice especially if you find one used.
