Is the Channel Islands VDA2 a good budget DAC for rock?

I listen to a bunch of stuff from my old college days, including Eric Clapton, Hendrix (more on the Blues side), some Stones - as well as acoustic like Simon and Garfunkel and CSNY. Don't really want to spring for the Benchmark DAC1 as the Channel Islands VDA2 comes out to be about $400 less. Has anyone heard it, and would it give me some of the attributes of the DAC1? I like "analog-like" but with a fair amount of detail. I don't run a sub but want moderately extended bass to be appropriate for rock. I've heard some pleasant, non-fatiguing,"polite" DACs that focus on the midrange but fall short on the bottom and top - to the point where they become too uninvolving. Very interested in learning more from some of the pros who may have listened to the VDA2.

Thanks, Audiohound
