CDR Recording problems

I belong to a local community symphony and we had our concert recorded
on a CDR HHB HH BURN IT CDR Recorder. The first half of the concert was recorded just fine, But the Soundstage engineer had to much going on when the concert was over and had shut down all the equipment in the recording booth prior to the finalization of the disk. When he noticed what had happened he turned the equipment back on and the unit flashed Set.Up for almost 10 minutes, then it prompted a message Check Disk for 15 seconds, followed by insert New Disk Message. The Engineer stated that the machine states that 74 minutes of data is on the disk, but machine won't finalize disk. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
How can we get the disk finalized?
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
