Mr. Hansen, in his offensive (and defamatory) diatribe contains nothing but lies. In his obsessive quest to divert attention away from the panning of his company's CD player, he does nothing but make deceitful assertions:
1. As for the CD survey, I will admit that I was one of 4 people whose opinions were therein contained.
2.His claim that as a manufacturer, I buy components at accomodation prices and resell them for a profit is tantamount to libel. The first part of that sentence is accurate. I can and do purchase products that I have an interest in at accomodation prices. What is a bald face lie is that I purposely do so to resell them on Audiogon for a profit. I have NEVER done this. I repeat NEVER. My audio purchases are for personal use or reference use for trade shows or demos. I will only sell said product if it does not live up to its promise and if the manufacturer will not take it back. I have NEVER expressly purchased a component on an accomodation price for the purpose of resale for a profit on Audiogon.This is absurd and a total lie. I challenge Mr. Hansen to find one ad on Audiogon where I or anyone on my behalf offers for sale( for profit or not) a component that I purchased on an industry accomodation. Since you cannot, your statement amounts to legal libel. Unlike Mr. Hansen who has the spare time to post all day on this site, I am far too busy to even think of indulging in this activity nor would I do so on ethical grounds. I have purchased units on an accomodation price for more than 14 years. Eventually, these components will get sold as they are bettered by new products or as they no longer meet my needs. But they are never purchased with the intent to make a profit. As a manufacturer, I sell Coincident speakers to others in the industry at accomodation prices as well. After a period of time, they sometimes get sold too. A purchase on an accomodation basis is not a lifetime commitment. Some manufacturers stipulate a 6 or 12 month period before resell is permitted, while others make no conditions at all.
3.To implicate Arthur Salvatore in this defamatory statement is complete nonsense. Arthur has nothing whatsoever to do with any of my audio purchases nor has he ever asked me to purchase anything for him other than a VPI Aries and HRX turntable for personal use that was shipped from VPI directly to him. Hansen has no facts. Simply a litany of malicious lies to deflect attention from the review of his CD player.
4. As for Arthur and his association with Coincident- Outside of his opinions which are clearly stated on his website, there is no connection financial or otherwise between him and the company what so ever. Arthur has not ever made one penny from the sale of any Coincident product nor would he ever even think along those lines. To make this claim or even imply it is utter absurdity. Arthur does own Coincident amplifiers, 2 prs of speakers and a variety cables - all of which were purchased at industry accomodation prices. Arthur and I would have it no other way. Perhaps this is alien to Charlie's way of thinking, but it is not to us. If Arthur wants a Coincident product, he buys it.
5. The Ayre CD Player- Because I was interested in obtaining a high quality digital source for reference purposes and for use at the upcoming CES, I contacted Steve Silberman of Ayre to discuss the possible purchase of the unit. After reading all the rave reviews of the player, I felt this could be the one to have. Steve offered me the unit on an accomodation basis and I signed an agreement stating that the player was for personal use and that I could not resell it for a year.
When I received the player, my brother in law expressed interest in auditioning it since he too thought it might be something he would be potentialy wishing to buy. I loaned it to him. He then wanted some advise on its operation so he called Ayre and spoke to Steve who interpreted this call as believing the unt was purchased for my brother in law. Steve called me irate, accusing me of deceiving him by purchasing the Ayre for my brother in law and not for me. I explained that he was wrong. I paid for the unit, and that it was mine and that my brother in law was only auditioning it. My brother in law called him minutes after to reiterate that fact.
My brother in law auditioned the player and then returned it me. I then began the evaluation process as did a couple of other individuals. We all came to the conclusion that this player severely sucked and BIG TIME. I actually believed it to be defective so poor was its sound. I called Steve and requested to return it for a refund since the unt was too painful to listen to. He agreed and I also asked him to check it out to ensure that it was not defective. The unit was returned and it was ony subsequent that I was advised by my brother in law that he scratched the bottom plate by using spikes. I do truly regret that I did send the unit back like this but I did so unaware.
Steve advised hat he received the player and that it was marred on the underside. I acknowledged this and apologized. He then had it tested and pronounced it to be sounding and testing perfectly. Although he did say it sounded new (I took that to mean not fully broken in eventhough it had over 200 hours of play on it.)
A short time later he advised that due to the damage and a restocking charge, he would issue a
refund check that left me about $1500 short of what I paid ( including freight, taxes and brokerage).
Rather than take the player back I took a huge financial loss. So much for getting accomodation prices and reselling for a profit. Frankly, if I was offered the player for free with the proviso that I had to listen to it exclusively I would have eagerly declined.
Due to the complete lack of evidence for any of Mr. Hansen's malicious claims. I expect a retraction or legal consequences will ensue.
