RE: Are Audio CDs truely digital ?

An audio CD does not spin at a constant speed like an LP does. It's speed is determined by a feedback mechanism - there lies one of its biggest problems!

Compensation via feedback in audio equipment is nearly always problematical whether it be in a CD transport mechanism or an amplifier as 'catching up' has to occur after the event.

Most people still seem to believe that a CD player just reads bits and simply serves those bits and all the problems lie in the realm of D/A stage - that is not the case and is the reason why a good dedicated transport can have a dramatic effect on the resulting sound.
