Before SACD, I used a TEAC VRDS 20 with various iterations of the Timbre DAC ... as my digital source, the Timbre hugely outclassed the Teac internal.

Before finally sending it off to Jennifer Crock's for CD burning, I listened to the internal again, and it still was not in the same league as the transport driving a good external (well, the Timbre was better than "good").
