Hi, I have compared TDA1541A with TDA1541AS1. The latter is much better on violins, sopranos etc; much less harsh!
So I am selling all my simple A versions (link)
Abbingdon only has simple A version as can be seen in the picture of the 6Moons review. S2 is only in Marantz CD7 and all Zanden. Word on the street is Zanden bought all stock of S2.
There have been offerings of S2 chips from China but many suspect these are "restamped" to make extra money.
