I just bought a Simaudio Moon CD5.3 to replace my eight year old Rotel RCD971 after home auditioning six other players. While the wonderful sound is ultimately what swayed me, I must admit that its amazing build quality, absolutely dead silent transport, generally logical operations and, in my opinion, elegant appearance, influenced my decision greatly as well. My wife and I listen to CDs pretty much every single day and, when we have time, for hours on end. The $3,000 was worth it to get something that we absolutely loved and will use for many, many years to come on a daily basis.

I wish more reviewers would focus on these issues. I home auditioned some very positively reviewed players that were just too darned noisy (e.g, Krell Standard) or quirky (e.g., NAD M55) for me to accept on a longe term basis, even though many of them sounded just fine.

To the OP - Home audition! And when you do, pay attention first and foremost to the sound, but also to how well built the player is and how enjoyable and easy it is to use.
