WHy doesn't Apple market a line of audiophile Ipods with high
quality phones. With 80 gig, it is possible to load a lot of
files with better qualities than MP3s. THis would begin to get
people interested in better quality sound.

Don, this is a great question. My hunch is that they don't really care about anything but selling product. If no one is demanding better quality, than they don't feel like they need to add it.

Same thing with the death of dynamic range in modern recordings. Record companies think that helps sell music, so they compress the hell out of everything to sound good on well, an ipod.
