The issues that have been brought up at diyhifi.org are interesting to read, but they really don't mean much to your ears.I did a direct comparison between a "new" Benchmark DAC1 (manufactured in January 2006) and a Lavry DA10 about a year ago and the Lavry sounded slightly better to both my wife (who didn't know which she was listening to during the comparison) and to myself (I did know which DAC I was listening to). The Lavry seemed a bit more detailed during complex instrumental pasages to both of us.
That being said, all DACs I've listened to above a certain price point sound very similar to me. I think that comparisons in magazines and on the internet tend to greatly exaggerate the differences between them as reviewers try to search for words to distinguish between the components they are supposed to be reviewing. I am quite certain that whichever of these DACs you end up will sound very good to your ears.
