Ok,
From what you are saying, your TV is providing the tuner (ie. it is tuning in the cable broad cast, NOT a cable box), and we need to get that signal to your receiver.
From the setup up guide for the TV, it appears that the COAX jack on the back of the TV is the correct one to get digital audio out to the receiver.
This should be an RCA type connection on the TV for this coax jack, and that gets connected to the digital in (coax) on the receiver.
It sounded like this is how you connected it originally, so there are 3 things that could be happening:
1. The TV is not outputting a digital signal. SOme devices require a menu setting to turn on the digital output. Check your tv set up menu...it could also be that turning off the tvs speakers might also accomplish this.
2. The receiver may not be set up to receive the signal. Do other sources play on this receiver? If you know the reciever works, then check its menu settings and make sure it is set up to look for the coax input.
3. The cable could be bad, you may want to try another RCA cable, preferably one designed for video or digital signals.
it seemed like the ONLY output of the TV was digital. If this is true, it probably has conversion for analog signals to digital. But, if it doesn't and your cable is not actually providing digital audio, then you may not get any sound. This is definately a long shot, but might have something to do with why the TV manufacturer doesn't recommed hooking it up as the main source.
Good luck.
