Jon - I'm not sure what you're asking me. IMO this is a very resolved, detailed and dynamic player. I hesitate to say it sounds like solid state, because many associate that with harsh, and this player is very listenable, even on extended sessions at moderately high volume levels. It sounds solid state like in it's neutral and dynamic presentation, and is not the warm, clipped, bloomy, or bass shy stereotypical tubed player. It is resolved to the point of sounding smooth, is "good" with respect to its tonality, having a lot of natural live sounding qualities, especially with vocals, drums, acoustic guitars and acoustic bass. I think piano sounds good, but could sound more real in a more refined player. I've already tried a few, but it's possible more cable swapping could bring about more improvements.
I never meant to imply this player is up there with Reimyo or Meitner at all. I've never heard those products, and they are way out of my audio budget. In the end, we all use similar terms to describe sound and never can convey the degree. I can only use my modded RAM Denon 3910 full of Jensen and Rubycon caps, silver point to point wiring, silver wired coupling transformers, external isolation transformer, SuperClock 3, and OPA627 opamps as a reference point.
I felt compelled to provide a review because nobody else has, and the performance represents an exceptional value. Others may be afraid to purchase a player made in China, as I was. I would love to hear how the MHZS stacks up against other very good RBCD players. If I ever get the opportunity, I'll be sure to share my reactions.
Ken
