HiFi+ in 2002 had a review on the 390S. The reviewer compared it to the 861 and seemed to like the 861 better for its transparency --liked the functionality of the 390S and its value (at the time the 861 was substantially more costly than the 390S).

Hope this helps a little. The review is probably on the HIFI+ archives.
