I have a new Wadia 581i with 200 music hrs on it. I am using it direct to my amp. The unit is somewhat cool sounding. I changed the dip switches and yes there was some improvement. I may have sold my pre amp too fast. The Wadia grabbed my attention with its greater dynamic character. This has appealed to my head, but so far not my heart. For me the Wadia lacks the ease and serenity I've experienced with my preamp and CD player. It is (in my system) not particularly easy to listen to. It's very detailed and open but a bit on the brittle side. After several hundred hours of play it works fine but simply doesn't float my boat as it has an edge to it. I have to assume at this junction (200 hrs) what I am experiencing is not an artifact of break in.
Any 581 listeners that have any experience with direct driving amps and breakin would be appreciated.
