Cary 303/300 vs 306/200

210.0.187.34

Many months ago I posted some comments that 306/200 sounds much better than 303/300, despite the latter's newer design, higher sampling rates and tube output etc. I have not really paid regular attention to this asylum and I am surprised when I visit it this morning to find that there are so many discussions on 303/300. Casually I gathered that users are saying that the higher sampling rates do not sound as good as 192k; the tube output does not sound as good as SS output; some users even noticed vibration during CD play. These coincided with my observations when I did my private purchasing audition neck to neck between 303/300 and 306/200. I went in with an intention to buy the new 303/300, only turned out after 1.5 hours of neck to neck comparison I had to reverse my decision and spend more on an older model. I have to say again the 306/200 is just a much better sounding machine with a marked difference in sweetness, detail and weight. One thread I read this morning said that the 303/300 took 10 seconds to read a CD. The 306/200 does it in less than 3 seconds. This is the only new info I did not realize and I just feel happier knowing I did not make a wrong choice. Sometimes you just have to trust yourself in making judgment. Do not get me wrong, I am not saying 303/300 is not good. I would have bought it if I had not made the direct comparison with the 306/200.
