Cable Break-in does improve the sound. Playing through CD player is fine. However, the CD player may not have strong current going through. You may try connecting between Preamp and AMP. You don't have to turn on the AMP by just turning the Preamp volume higher. In this way, you may get stronger current going through your interconnects.Good Luck,
