Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

Re: interconnects + power cord

The principles and requirements for power cords and speaker cables are quite consistent in nature, so there are basic guidelines and principles that work best and should be followed. That is, if optimum performance / neutrality are the desired goals. If one is looking for a specific sound or dealing with equipment that is less than well designed, it's quite possible that a cable / cables outside of those basic design considerations will deliver what you are looking for.

Interconnects are another story all together. The input / output impedances vary for each individual component to component interphase, resulting in differences in how any given cable will work ( electronically and sonically ) in a system. This is further compounded by the design integrity of the component loading into these variances. This is due to differences in stability and how well they respond to various impedances and levels of reactance.

To get to the point, we weren't able to put a man on the moon by guessing at which form, application or combination of "voodoo" would work best. Most things in electronics work in a specific and predictable manner. If they didn't, we wouldn't be able to design, build and manufacture high speed circuits that operate at phenomenally high frequencies with any type of consistency or repeatability. When audiophiles recognize that there is a method to the madness / technology that EE's utilize, and EE's recognize that some things that shouldn't be audible really are, we won't be having these types of discussions anymore. Until that point, the furthering of audio mysticism based on random samples and experiences will continue to befuddle and amaze most end users. That's why the debates that continually appear in this and other similar forums never reach any type of conclusion. Sean
