Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

I've made the Solo inductor Ubyte-2 speaker cable, interconnect, AND power cord...

192.234.77.6

I must say that despite those who used 32 gauge wrapping wire in interconnect version of Ubyte-2, I used the same method as speaker cables with 18 gauge solid core foam-teflon belden(from Anixter), wrapped with unrolled solo 16 gauge inductors(from Michael Percy). Then wrapped with teflon plumbers tape, which than is heatshrinked with polyolefin (from Heatshrink.com) I've now made speaker cables, interconnects, power cords, and there are my observations so far:

1) The speaker cable seems to be the best implementation of this cross-connected Solo inductor Ubyte-2. I initially thought that I would miss the midrange richness of sonoran signatures, but after a while of ubye-2 in use, I find that I CANNOT go back to Sonorans. This modified Ubyte-2 speaker cable is the best thing since sliced bread. Just remember that before I bought the Sonorans, I had compared them to Transparent, MIT, Cardas of various models near the top, and I had preferred the Sonorans. This Ubyte-2 is ruler-flat from extreme top to bottom, with zero smudge, grain, or fog. Unbridled speed top-to-bottom, the perfect bass, dynamics. In many ways, it reminds me of the sound of my Nordost Quattro Fil
interconnects.

2) The Ubyte-2 interconnect. I haven't tried using very small gauge wrapping wire, but I may experiment with Jon Risch Belden 89259 in one leg instead of both legs with 18 gauge solid core Belden. So far, this interconnect is intriguing. It has the qualities above, especially speed, dynamics, transparency, bass slam. It also has that extra "excitement factor," which I believe is a coloration and not entirely neutral. The speaker cable version does not seem to have this coloration to a noticeable degree. In certain systems, however, this IC will be awesome because it tends to add some treble, upper midrange excitement, which goes well with tubed stuff or neutral to dark gear. I currently use it for my Accuphase T-100 tuner, which benefits from extra excitement.

3) The Power cord. Very good stuff. Once again, I don't believe it as good as the speaker cable since I can't think of a better speaker cable out there than this modified Ubyte-2, but I CAN think of some better power cords. Basically the same deal. Lightening fast, unbridles dynamics, transparent as windex, extended to heaven and hell. But also same "colorations" I hear as interconnects. However, I do like this cord very much on my tubed amp. It didn't work so well with my solid state electronic crossover, etc, however. If you do decide to make this power cord, be very careful and be forewarned as you are fooling with high voltage power AC. All connecting wires and joints MUST be extremely well isolated by whatever means from each other, as a short can cause fire. This happened to me once, which I was saved by fast fuse in my building! Try at your risk...
