Home Cable Asylum

Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

Re: Attention Cable Braiders

I've used material from Perfection Mica before, mostly just the netic and conetic material. The Inter-8 (unshielded) makes a pretty decent loudspeaker cable but not necessarily a good interconnect. I don't think that any braiding is particularly uselful for single ended interconnects, but could be useful for balanced or phono.

Actually, it would be MOST useful for single-ended interconnects. Or more appropriately, for single-ended interfaces.

Since single-ended interfaces don't have the common-mode rejection of balanced interfaces, the less susceptible the interconnect is to induced noise in the first place, the less noise you get in the end.

Now there's an idea - some DIY homebrew balanced or phono interconnects and loudspeaker cables using Inter-8. Although the gauges used are on the small side, no real worries for short runs or when used with most tube amps (no damping to speak of, so no major DCR worries).

A little Asylum project cable! NBL (Name Brands for Less)! LOL!

Hahaha! Hey, works for me!
