Digital cable comparison

63.228.79.148

I spent a little time tonight listening to three different digital cables. My system is using a highly modified Pioneer DV-525 into a modified Monarchy DIP MK II into a slightly modified Lexicon DC-1 v4. I changed the digital output jack on my Pioneer to a BNC. The cables I compared were all 1/2 meter in length from the Pioneer into the DIP. I used an Illumati D-60, a digital cable I made with 1506a with an added external shield with a .01 cap on the load side and the same design with the 1695a coax. Both of the Belden cables used Canare true 75 ohm connectors.

The D-60 is very clean and clear but compared to the 1506a it was lacking in definition. The low end was slightly boomy in comparison and with cymbals the D-60 was slightly smeared. The 1695a cable took the clarity up another notch. Brush strokes on cymbals were very clear. I could almost hear each wire strand hitting the cymbal. Low frequencies were VERY extended and TIGHT. Female vocals were smoother then with the other two cables.

For the slight amount of price difference between the the two Belden cables the sonic difference is quite remarkable. I will be using the 1695a in all future digital cables I make.

Cheers,
Wayne
