Many aftermarket power cord manufactures use solid core wire in the construction of their power cords. Audioquest for one. Individually insulated solid core wires that are paralleled with one another to make a desired larger wire gauge conductor. Example, individually insulated conductors that may make up a 12 gauge power cord might be paralleled individually insulated 16awg solid core wires.
