Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

OMG, I can hear a difference in speaker cables. Damn it!

I got a new amplifier recently that is upmarket from what I have owned before. I had a pair of cables whos brand will not be mentioned, on loan to a friend which had been a cable that I had used happily for several years. My philosophy on cables has been to buy something well made, but did not buy into substantial sonic differences. When my new amplifier arrived, I used lamp cord to hook it up and happily listened for a few days. I finally collected my other cables from my friend and inserted them into my system late Sunday night. By Tuesday I was being irritated by what I would describe as glare in the treble. On Wednesday it continued and by the afternoon it finally occurred to me that the cables had changed. I went back to the lamp cord (cheap 14ga generic twisted copper) and was amazed that the glare was gone!

I have since gone and bought cables in the $200 tier as well as $600 tier and I can easily hear a difference between these, and the differences are trade offs not one being clearly better than the other.

I will tell you that I cannot hear any difference between Tidal at 320kbps and lossless on this new system, and I don't really want to hear a difference in cables. I always considered cables as sort of voodoo science. But my opinion is changing fast!

My equipment up to this point has been solid, so it is not like I was using BestBuy clearance gear but I suppose it is possible this is the first system I have had that can resolve the differences. Maybe my specific amplifier for some reason is sensitive?

Not sure, but I am going to keep playing.
