Twist it until it works (like you do now), then forget it. The problem is probably not in the cable or termination itself, it is in the connection between the RCA positive pin of the cable, and the inner sleeve in the RCA plug on the amplifier (sometimes just little runs of brass that rely on a tight pin connection).
I would never try to solder a multistrand cable like the Golden Reference, very unlikely that opening it up yourself and fooling around with it would solve the problem, and you'd have a damaged cable to boot.
