RE: It would be difficult to play music without them

The equipment rack is a piece equipment by it's shear name. So is Foot Ball equipment. Neither will record or play music though.

In the building electrical industry branch circuit wiring is not called equipment. It is fed from equipment and equipment can be connected to it.
But it is not classified as equipment.
