Well after a week I put my DIY magnet wire/teflon tubing IC's back in and breathed a sigh of relief. I just couldn't get used to the loose bass. The better mids and highs were only marginally improved compared to the loss of articulation in the bass.

Sigh, always a trade off to be had. Either I really hit the mark on my DIY IC's or I am going have to bite the bullet and really spend beyond my price range to get the improvement I'm looking for.
