I'm used to the 'If you don't spend a FORTUNE you've either got bad hearing or a non-resolving system.' It is a BS approach designed to establish Dominance (Pecking Order) and sustain the prejudice of the poster.
When I go to THE Newport this weekend, I'll be CERTAIN to look for the number of persons in attendance with HEARING AIDS. I'm sure they can tell the difference between Canare cable and whatever wacky expensive cable you'd like.
If I were answering Mad, I'd ask if he'd like to have someone swap or NOT his speaker wires with the Canare or perhaps even the less expensive Belden. Come into the room and say with certainty if the cables had or hadn't been swapped. 20 repeats would establish a statisticlly valid basis for the claim or NOT.
The easiest cable to distinguish has poor measurables, IMO. For example, using a small wire which adds series resistance or maybe high capacitance or inductance so it acts as a FILTER.
40 feet is a crazy lot of cable. Whoever suggested SHORTER gets my vote, even if they want to use a Home Depot Extension Cord.
Too much is never enough
