RE: Belden jumping into the high dollar

I got to hear the OFC version of the Iconoclast speaker cables, $5k for a pair of 10'. The cable was sort of square, comprised of 21 braided strands The braid is supposed to be a special technique to end of with lowest possible capacitance. Each strand is also supposed to have air around it to deal with effects of dielectric. The shielding, if that's what it is, was very thin. I would guess all the strands looked to make up a 10 gauge cable.

I got to hear them in my system compared to my Clarus Crimson, the Crimson is supposed to be continuous cast or single cell copper but both models have about the same retail, my set is actually 12'. The Belden had very little play time on them. I still preferred the Clarus although the Iconoclast seemed to separate things more, more air and better detail. My Clarus had better textural density though which I liked. The Iconoclast just had a delicate delivery I couldn't get used to and sort of a coolness, lack of a better way to put it into words. I would have liked to put more music through the Iconoclast to get a better feel but time was limited.

Just ignore this if it doesn't make sense to you my friends didn't understand what I meant either but in case anyone might. Some understand a black background, where the music emerges from darkness, classic Krell and Levinson were known for this and you notice blacker background when conditioners or cords are added that removes noise you didn't realize was there. My Clarus seems to embrace the dark background feel where the Iconoclast was like white. Although the Iconoclast seemed to have outstanding detail and imaging I just couldn't get drawn into the "white" background presentation. Well, that and the delicateness of the presentation which gave to my mind a less natural sound.
