Ok, this one isn't obvious to me.
When running digital devices HDMI out to TV, and then TV optical out to DAC the audio fidelity is worse than when running optical direct to the DAC from those devices. Everything I've read should mean that the bits are kept in tact/ lossless in HDMI stream.
Am I crazy?
