Tempo Electric Cable Review Update

Hi:

This is a follow-up to my original Tempo Electric silver cable review back in May, 2010. Use the link below to see the original review. I have expanded my use of Tempo Electric cables and still feel they offer excellent value for the money. Here's a list of changes I've made:

1. Interconnect Cables – I switched from a stereo integrated amp to a separate preamp and mono amps, so I added a 1 meter pair of Big Twist interconnects to my original .75 meter pair. After receiving the new interconnects, I noticed that they have a slightly different model of very high quality WBT silver RCA connectors. Joe from Tempo explained that he switched to a model with a metal body because, while a bit more expensive, it's easier to work with and has an even higher build quality. Don't forget that Joe sells his Big Twist interconnects for less than the list price of the WBT connectors themselves! He can do this due to OEM volume discounts.

Side Note – I ordered the second pair of interconnects on an afternoon and received it the very next day! Yes, I happen to live within 1-day USPS Priority Mail shipping from Tempo but still, that's what I call service!

2. Speaker Cables – As mentioned above, I switched from a stereo amp to mono amps and I also wanted to try bi-wiring. Therefore, I went from one longer pair of cables to two shorter pair of cables. Unfortunately, my longer pair wasn't quite long enough to cut in half for the two shorter pairs. However, Joe offered to cut down and prepare my original pair at no additional charge. So, I sent it back along with payment for the second set of cables.

I was prepared to purchase the same 16 gauge size for my tweeter cables but Joe actually down-sold me to 20 gauge! How many dealers or manufacturers do that? He said that the smaller wire would make no difference when used for tweeters. The cables came back as two perfect pairs with the addition of labels. The labels are helpful to identify which cable is which (gauge) and now I can be consistent with the direction I run the cables based on the direction of the labels. The other "test" that Joe passed is that he sent back the leftover silver cable from the cut-down 16 gauge pair. He could have easily kept it but realized it had some value and returned it. I have actually used some of it as internal hookup wire for my tube amps output transformers.

As for sound, I still think the Tempo speaker and interconnect cables are one of the best values around. Everything I wrote in my original review still stands. These cables just sound "right" and have all of the good stuff – extra soft solid silver wire, oversize Teflon outer jackets and very high quality silver RCA connectors for the interconnects. Yes, the WBT locking connectors are a bit of a pain but you just set them and forget them. I should also mention that there really seems to be a small but clearly noticeable improvement with bi-wiring.

The usual disclosure - I'm not affiliated with Tempo Electric in any way. I'm just a satisfied customer who feels Joe offers great products at a fair price and excellent service! What more could you want?
