IMO, a plastic box may be an expedient way to build a low-budget DIY power distributor, but an AC outlet mounted on a plastic box doesn't make sense from an audiophile POV since it won't provide the kind of rigid high-mass resonance damping and electrical shielding that an aluminum box can provide. The benefit of a rigid thick-walled aluminum box is directly associated with damping detrimental resonance produced at the AC socket contacts/AC plug blades interface when firmly affixed to the aluminum box via the backstrap of the AC outlet, especially the two ground prongs of a duplex outlet directly fastened to the backstrap. The rigid high-mass brass backstrap of an Audio Grade AC outlet like that of an Oyaide R1 is of great benefit to the sound, especially when mounted on an Oyaide WPC-Z aluminum wall bracket. Many users report that the Oyaide WPC-Z improves the sound as much as an Oyaide AC outlet does. YMMV
