RE: DIY Silver Interconnect Shielding

Thinner gauge will transmit high frequencies more accurately, but is more apt to break if mishandled. It is also cheaper. You could make one pair of 24, another of 28, and compare them in both positions. Use the best quality wire (and connectors--they are equally important) you can find and afford. There is no point in going to all the trouble of building cables with crappy wire or cheapo plugs. Not all "pure" silver wire is the same quality.

Build an unshielded set first. Try them in both positions. If you don't get noise, build another pair. Shielding never adds anything good, so it should be used only when trying to prevent something bad.

Teflon is fine, but is very stiff. Oversized teflon with air is better but even stiffer. Vibration inside an oversized tube can be bad. From that standpoint, cotton is better, but cotton can absorb moisture and is subject to wear, snags, etc.

Twisted pair is good. Slightly spaced, twisted pair is much better. What I would do (and have successfully done) is put both wires in their teflon tubes, then slide ONE of those wired tubes into a piece of cotton tubing, then twist them. You would then have a spaced, twisted pair with some damping.

Entry into the connector is the weakest point. Use plenty of heatshrink or tape to stiffen it. I never use techflex, but then I don't care at all how pretty my cables are.
