When wired cross-connected (star quad) vs. side-by-side wiring, the benefits of a cross-connected 4-conductor speaker cable implemented for a single channel audio cable application are:
1. Lowered inductance vs. a simple twisted pair.
2. More efficient noise cancellation (both incoming noise rejection and outgoing noise suppression) vs. a simple twisted pair.
A potential downside is increased capacitance vs. a twisted pair, but only when particular amplifiers are said to be quite sensitive to high capacitance speaker cables due to the potential of amplifier oscillation as a result.
