Extra connections will probably have more impact than the 6 or 12 inches of different wire. If the short piece of wire is constant, it should not affect the results of the test. If all the connections are of equal quality, they will also be constant. So, no, you will not be hearing only the longer wires, but you will be hearing the DIFFERENCE between the longer wires. Make sense? Whichever wire you think is better with all the test apparatus in place will probably sound slightly better, or at least different, after the test apparatus is removed and a direct connection made.
A breeze or fan blowing across your listening space will have far more impact than any of the other elements in your test.
Random, blind testing is good, but not essential for valid conclusions about something as subjective as sound. Why not just ask someone to flip the switch at random?
