Home Cable Asylum

Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

Be fair, guys!

I am not commenting on whether that ebay item is genuine or not. As always, when a deal is too good to be true, it probably is. So buyers beware.

However, having lived in Hong Kong for such a long time and having dealt with China regularly, I can tell you that while you can get fake stuff in Hong Kong, it is also one of the more vibrant hifi markets out there, where you can get all the good stuff from almost anywhere around the world. And when you are shopping for hifi from hifi or electronics dealers, there is almost zero threat of getting fakes (if you are trying to get Cardas cable from a hardware store (like some of those on Apliu Street as mentioned by the other poster), I can't say the same)

I would probably be quite a bit more cautious with Mainland China, as there are a lot more fakes produced there. The good thing is that, most fakes are quite low in quality and can be easily spotted if you know your stuff. Mainland affluents now often travel to Hong Kong to buy hifi (and handbags, medicines, baby formula, etc.) for that peace of mind that they are not getting fakes.

Again, I am not trying to say whether you should trust or not trust anyone from Hong Kong or from China. White vans are white vans, and they can be anywhere. I am just saying that perhaps further thoughts should be made before slamming a verdict on a whole city or country.

Cheers
