There are so many who have helped me at various times, not just by their posts, but by the willingly given private advice as well. This is an odd place, but a good one. A place where people who actually make a living off their inventions and expertise offer it freely to those who otherwise might be buying their stuff too.
And I've seen the progression from experimenter here to manufacturer as well. So I'm glad to help those who make that leap.
Sometimes I find my fingers are too quick or my mouth (figuratively) is too sharp in this medium. I do try to correct that stuff when the opportunity is there. It's not so easy to maintain friendships on controversial discussions/topics with people I've never actually seen! Email is better at facilitating contact than it is at ensuring good communication.
I've made a lot of good friendly contacts over the years here, but more importantly, I've got at least a couple of really good true friends from this interchange. That is more valuable to me than all the gear Stereophile writes up to drool over at astronomical prices.
Tonight I had a visit - first in 20 years - from one of my closest and longest term friends on the planet. When all the wives left the house I cranked up the stereo for him to hear. Of course, he was really appreciative of the sound. It's not so great seeing your close buddies only every 20 years, and I know he's no audiophile either. As close as I can come to having that kind of visit with real audiophiles has been the discussion here and visits to Al's place, which is 2 hours away from me.
So this forum is of more value to me than you might imagine....
