Seriously though, I measured continuity on a female Wattgate 320i and it took an insertion depth of about 7mm. A spare male chassis IEC in the ol' parts bin has prongs of almost 13mm - a 6mm overlap or 1/4".

Can you see if yours comes close to these measurements? As others have said, this is not something to be trimming down for safety reasons. Have you double-checked your wiring connections on your cord, visually and then with a VOM to see if you have continuity and then take a peak at the amps IEC to see if all looks right with the 3 spades there. Do your amps power up with off the shelf power cords? Similarly, does your new power cords work with any of your equipment? This should narrow down the area of your problem.
