i arrived at 22 gauge as it's the largest single strand silver/unbleached cotton wire that homegrownaudio.com sells. my yamamoto only pumps out a whopping 2 watts so i don't think i need your standard audiophile 0 gauge garden hose cable for the job.
also, my speakers have an internal 600 watt amplifier that powers the woofer section. from what i can see at looking inside my speakers, they are wired with either 14 or 12 gauge (most likely 14) analysis plus cabling.
i'm not a soldering master, but i've done a few jobs and i feel pretty confident in my ability to make a solid connection. i chose silver primarily due to it's oxidation resistance in comparison to copper. granted, this might be a negligible concern, but a concern none the less.
