...a few years ago, he told me he had discovered that the black did not sound as good, and I believe he had been reweaving them to get rid of the wires that used black housing. As I heard it, he persuaded Ray Kimber to switch to the new arrangement (via Ray comparing the two in listening tests). The theory is the carbon particles that make the black housing black are interfering with transmission. That may well be; if it sounds better, then go for it!

Ray Kimber may want to chime in with more info, but that is what I heard regarding this change.
