sheild grounding on power cable between supply and phono stage

Hi,
From posts that I have read I am of the understanding that earthing a power cords shield at the wall plug end is the way to go. Am I therefore correct in my assumption that the place to earth a shield between a power supply and a phono stage would be at the power supply end? Also would taking a wire from the shield to the chassis ground point be acceptable or would it be better to connect it to the earth power input (to the supply)directly? Or maybe even to the earth cable running from the phono stage chassis earth to the power supply chassis earth? Please help!
