Red,
I have a full compliment of SR Tesla IC's, SC's and now the new power cords. Prior to auditioning and later buying the Tesla PC's I had all Shunyata Anaconda 2's in my system. The Conda's combined with Tesla IC's and SC's delivered a sound I have been looking for over ten years. That is to say I am a music lover first and attend live performances so I know what live un-amplified music sounds like. As such I like pinpoint imaging but I also demand layering and a sense of the hall- the bigger the better provided it is true to the recording (not phasey). I also seek life like dynamics and detail without sacrificing natural harmonics-think of the sound of plucked strings on a guitar or the strings of a cello. You should be able to hear this along with a sense of the instruments body-it's "wood" size integrated in with the initial note of plucked or bowed strings. In the past I found I had to compromise-some cables did an excellent job of presenting the strings while others were better convey the sense of wood while casting a haze over the strings-think Cardas vs. Nordost.
When I first installed Tesla IC's and SC's I was going up against my Nordost Valhalla which had been in my system for a couple of years. The difference was that of flat images projected against a wall vs. round images naturally layered front to back seeming to occupy a natural sense of space-this was startling and dramatic. Also the sense of "strings" as I discussed had always been excellent with the Valhalla’s in my system while the sense of wood, while present, was no where near as organic or lifelike as with other cables I have owned-Cardas and Transparent Audio. I had been sacrificing texture and body for air detail and speed. Now with the Tesla cables I was hearing for the first time detail, texture and body, and to a much greater degree then with any other cables I have owned without any sacrifice I could detect. Of course I experimented with different Tesla cables before arriving at what I felt was my best system match but the net result was the most realistic sound field I have ever heard with natural detail and textural nuance presented in the largest sound stage I have ever heard.
So I was very happy with my Shunyata Synergistic Research combo-in fact I was an outspoken fan of both and touted the combination as a synergy on other forums. Enter the Tesla power cords. As I replaced the Condas one by one in my system the sense of three dimensionality improved dramatically- what I thought had been the most holographic sound I could achieve suddenly sounded flater and compressed in comparison. Images took on a more three dimensional sound as if they were emanating in concentric circles from each instrument and performer. What I had though were rounded images now sounded flatter and compressed within a narrower relationship to my speakers. This was unexpected but hoped for, as this had been my experience when switching between Nordost Valhalla and Synergistic Apex and Precision Reference IC's and SC's. Also improved was the sense of listening to a live "organic" performance on some recordings. Massed strings with the Conda / Tesla combo now sounded sightly metallic and lean by comparison. The unusual thing was that this harmonic texture and overall sound stage improvement was also accompanied by greater detail, air, and low frequency extension with tighter control.
Obviously I am a huge fan but this comes as a result of years of experimenting with probably a dozen different cable brands. I could go on as there are additional strengths but to do so will take this already over the top report WAY over the top. The bottom line is if you are looking to audition cables in your system, and if your dealer will allow you to try before you buy, I can think of no better cable to have a go with. For reference I have had the following cables in my systems over the past ten years- Transparent Audio Reference XL, Cardas NR, Nordost Valhalla, Synergistic Research Designer's Reference and Absolute Reference, Shyunata Anaconda 2 and Python, and others.
It will be interesting to hear your findings-email me if you want further info.
John
