First is relatively inexpensive. I have tried a whole lots of cables connecting my pre to my amp in balanced mode. If budget is a consideration you can get really good results with Blue Jeans Cable's balanced set. They use Belden 1800F with standard Neutrik connectors. This cable is really, really good and can be improved by ordering just a touch extra wire and then adding some Xhadow connectors on your own. The wire itself is excellent if prosaic.
Next is better but more involved. I used Chris VH's diy silver recipe. I didn't use a ground. Didn't need it. Connectors as above or as Chris suggests some Neutrik silvers. These really are the best I have tried. I had tried all the regulars up to about $500/set. Cardas, Analysis Plus, etc. I am VERY happy with the diy's I have now with absolutely no plans to try anything else.
