newbie question-cable length

I have searched around before posting this question, but still haven’t found clear info, so I’ll ask directly:
When shopping for cables, does a 3 meter pair of speaker cables consist of two 1.5 meter cables for a total span of 3 meters or two 3 meter cables for a total span of 6 meters?
Thanks for clearing up this months-old mystery for me.
